How much space do divan drawers need to open?
A drawer needs its own depth in clear floor, plus room for you to stand and look in. Bedside tables are the usual obstacle. If a table sits against the side of the base, the drawer behind it becomes almost useless. Either choose drawers only on the free side, a foot-end drawer, or a narrower bedside table set further back.
Deep-pile carpet is the second obstacle. Drawers that run on the floor or sit close to it can catch in thick pile. Check the base sits level and the drawer fronts clear the carpet.
2 drawers or 4 drawers: which is better?
Four drawers give more storage only if you can open all four. In a room where one side of the bed is against a wall, two of the four are wasted. Pick the layout for the floor you have, not the largest number. For two people sharing, split drawers mean each person has their own.

- Towels, if the bathroom is short of cupboard space.
- Board games, chargers and the odds and ends that clutter a bedside table.
Bulky items such as spare duvets and suitcases fit better in an ottoman.
