Our Factory

Twenty-two people, one building on Bradford Road, and every frame accounted for from timber delivery to the back of a van. Legend Beds has manufactured upholstered, ottoman and divan beds in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire since 2009.

Where are Legend beds made?

Every Legend bed is made at Legend Works on Bradford Road in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Timber arrives kiln-dried at one end of an 18,000 sq ft building and finished beds leave at the other. Nothing is subcontracted and nothing is imported finished.

That single-site model is why our lead times are short and our specifications are genuinely ours. Nothing waits in a shipping container, and nothing arrives built to a specification we did not write. When something goes wrong we can walk to the bench where it happened and speak to the person who was standing at it.

How long does it take to make a bed?

A core Legend frame takes four working days to build. A hand-tufted luxury frame takes nine. A bespoke commission takes six to eight weeks from approved drawing. Your build date is fixed at the point of order and does not move.

Build time by frame type
Frame type Build time What drives it
Core upholstered frame 4 days Machine-stitched panels, staged upholstery
Hand-tufted luxury frame 9 days One maker start to finish, every button tied individually
Bespoke commission 6–8 weeks Measured drawing, approval, single-maker build

We do not oversell factory capacity to smooth out a sale. If the production slots for a week are full we quote the following week, rather than taking the order and apologising later.

The people who build them

Our longest-serving upholsterer joined in 2011. Upholstery is not a job you learn in a month: a new maker spends eighteen months on core frames before they are trusted with a tufted headboard. Fourteen of our twenty-two staff are makers, and the whole floor is paid above the real Living Wage.

That matters commercially as well as ethically. Upholstery quality is almost entirely a function of how long the person doing it has been doing it, and makers who stay produce frames that stay square.

What we measure, and what we throw away

Quality control is four fixed checks rather than a final glance.

Squared before upholstery

Every frame gets a diagonal check. A frame out of square goes back to the bench, not forward to the upholsterer.

Load-tested at 250kg

Applied after upholstery, because upholstery tension is where a weak joint usually shows itself.

Pistons cycled fifty times

Gas pistons are cycled on the bench and matched to your mattress weight before the deck is fitted.

Two per cent taken apart

Two per cent of output is pulled apart at random each month and inspected. Those frames are never sold.
