Small Double Divan Beds (4FT)

A UK small double divan takes a 120cm × 190cm mattress — also called a three-quarter bed. It exists for one situation: a room that cannot take a 4FT6 double but where a 3FT single would waste the space.

The 15cm that decides it

Small double is 120cm; standard double is 135cm. That 15cm is roughly the width of a hand, and it changes the room more than it sounds:

• In a room 230–250cm wide, a 4FT6 leaves you turning sideways past the end of the bed. A 4FT gives you a walkway.
• For two adults sleeping together nightly, 120cm is tight. Take the standard double if the room allows.
• For one adult, a teenager, or a guest room used occasionally, 4FT is generous rather than compromised.

Why a divan base suits this size

Small double rooms are usually small double rooms because there is nowhere for a wardrobe. Drawer storage built into the base is often the only substantial storage the room will ever have — and unlike a chest of drawers, it takes no additional floor space.

The base also splits into two halves for delivery, which matters because 4FT beds frequently go into loft conversions and box rooms up narrow stairs.

Before you order

• Floor width: 120cm plus 60cm access. Workable from around 220cm room width.
• Drawer side: in a narrow room one side is usually against a wall. Order 2-drawer and specify which side.
• Bedding: 4FT bedding is less widely stocked than 4FT6 and often costs more per set. Check availability of the ranges you like first.
