Collection: King Size Divan Beds
King Size Divan Beds (5FT)
A UK king size divan takes a 150cm × 200cm mattress on a fully upholstered sprung or platform base. Every divan below is made to order at 5FT, with drawer or gas-lift storage depending on the model.
Divan or ottoman at king size?
This is the decision most 5FT buyers face, and the answer depends on your room rather than the bed.
-
Divan drawers pull outward from the side. You need clear floor space beside the bed equal to the drawer depth — usually 50–60cm. If one side of the bed is against a wall, you lose half your storage.
-
Ottoman gas-lift opens upward, needing no side clearance at all, and gives one large cavity rather than compartments.
Drawers win on daily access — you can open one without moving the duvet. Ottomans win on capacity and on rooms where the bed sits in an alcove.
Why a divan base matters at 5FT
A king mattress is heavy, and an unsupported slatted frame flexes over time at that width. A divan base is a continuous upholstered platform, so weight is distributed across the whole footprint. This is why divans remain the standard in UK bedrooms despite frames being fashionable — at king and super king they simply support a mattress better.
Room clearance to check
-
Floor width: 150cm plus 60cm to walk. A king divan needs a room from roughly 300cm wide.
-
Drawer clearance: if choosing a drawer model, measure the pull-out depth against your walkway on both sides.
-
Access: a 5FT divan base is delivered in two halves that link together, so it handles stairs and turns better than a one-piece frame.
